passport renewal blues 2

'Sara' never called me back yesterday nor this morning.
Called the embassy again at 11:00 EDT (figuring they have had their tea/caffeine whatever for the day)
This time, I entered ext 45 for 'sara'. She did answer, she did not sound like the same person from yesterday. Oh well it didnt matter anyway because she transferred me to ext 6 for A__ . Left a message again.

Zero sum game from the embassy.
It appears i might have to make a trip to DC :(

I had heard of bad experiences with the embassy but paid it no mind. Well, i have learnt a lesson!

Its not all sturm und drang, found out that with some software from a friend, and a new trans flash card, i can get my phone to play 25 songs using itunes. Since reading that the new Ipod Nano just cracks for no reason, i am content for now...the first song to be uploaded? I am thinking something from eminem's 'Anger management'.

(pole abt the bad link, fixed now - and thanks for the kind comments about the embassy shenanigans :)

There's a lady called Mrs. Okutoyi who was really helpful when I went through my passport nightmare. I would try and pin them down and find out whether the passport has even been sent to Nairobi (new 10 years must go to Nairobi) since mine somehow got "lost" in Nyayo House and no one in DC knew what the hell was going on and they kept telling me to check "next week". I ended up having to travel on an emergency document and sorting out the mess when I got to Nairobi...it was a total screwup.

Its saddening that they dont consider your feelings or the reason for your inquiry. I cant understand the laidback way in which these people just take matters... What if it was a genuine emergency? Over here I think it takes 4 weeks coz like KenyanPundit said, they have to post them to Nairobi, get them back and then forward to you! I see you inevitably have to make that trip, however inconveniencing for you... just because someone couldnt be bothered to go through with their job requirement!

LOL at anger management :)

That's such a shame. They should all relocate to Nyayo House if they can't be bothered to do their jobs in DC. I must say the Kenyan High Commission here in London is truly professional. They have always delivered - at least over the last 2 years!

wow...this blog is really disturbing. I sent my pp back in august 2006 and they didn't send it to kenya until sep 15. my husband who's American applied for a brand new passport in september and he received it 4 weeks later including his original birth certificate! Wow I couldn't believe it...can you imagine sending your original documents to a government office in Kenya? it just sends chills down my spine!
Anyway, I don't understand why it takes 3 months to renew a pp..what if I needed it for my job or something? In this day and time, our government should strive to be more efficient. I get tired of dealing with bureaucracy and horrible inefficiencies. What can we do?

Hey Kenyan Pundit... I am having the same trouble right now... I sent mine in Feb and i'm travelling June 17th and they just keep saying to call next week n next week... so I was thinking of going on emergency documents and getting it sorted out myself there...
did you have any trouble doing that? like trouble getting into the country or getting the passport?
