Brief post but with very interesting links:)
Reggaeton is getting the push & attention that's bound to make it blow up big just like Atlanta's Crunk music (thanks to Lil Jon). Read somewhere on Friday that President Carter (Jigga/Jay-Z/Hova,lol!)has also set up a latin-Hiphop imprint alongside the new Left Jam(Def Jam West coast)to tap into this new Latino-Hiphop craze.
-I just hope our Latino brothers would have better & different sounding beats for Reggaeton songs, they all sound alike to me & very much a shameless bite off of old school Ragga Dancehall(Shabba Ranks,Flexx, Daddy Freddy,Super Cat,Cutty Ranks).

Thomas L. Friedman! I love reading his NY Times columns & also liked his documentary last year on globalizatoin. Hope you saw it? He traveled around India & highlighted the effect globalization has on emerging economies & how smaller the world's becoming and that in the end, the same America that muscled it's way into smaller, weaker economies stands to lose jobs, productivity etc.

I read Matt Taibbi's review (New York Press - thanx afromusing for the link) of the Friedman book (haven't read the book myself), and going by the content referred to by Mr. Taibbi, Friedman's thinking in this book is somewhat sloppy. I am personally not a big fan of Friedman's as I see him as advancing a particular cause that I do not care to mention here. Suffice it to say that he does a good job of it, since he obviously enjoys a litany of fans.

hey akiey and Irene! Glad to read from you, i thought this would be one of those posts(if you can even call it a post) with 0 comments. I havent read the tom friedman book yet, he is an interesting writer for sure.In one of the wired magazine articles, he was asked if he had a political agenda, the answer was, ABSOLUTELY.The article didnt expound much on that, but i wondered about that for a sec. One thing for sure, that book was marketed thoroughly (Jack Shafer's comments cover the gist of that.)

Globalization is just one of the aspects of flattening - he covers some areas like supply chain management and the effect that companies like UPS have on ecommerce and e-procurement.

I agree with him about flattening, outsourcing and globalization ... but I dont agree with the whole idea that all middle high tech jobs will leave the US ... for india etc

the counter argument is that the US still have the Highest number of Engnineers and the US has 4000 universities compared to 7000 for the rest of the world together.

also - Access to 'fair' capital makes the US able to adjust ....

Friedman is a liberal {not that there is anything wrong with that} and he is looking at the next few years

bottom line, when faced with threats like outsourcing, pple tend to become more xenophobic, vote for David Duke or other exclusionist driven politicians ....

another good read for this summer would be http://www.freakonomics.com/

Afromusing, I feel your surprise at our flocking around your 'young' post but one thing I learned from blogging: "Never underestimate the power of a blog post", plus, there's 6 million ways to post:))!

Msanii_XL, we all should prolly be tough on reggaetonians until they improve & diversify it's style.
